ROONEY LEFT ANGRY AND CONFUSED
The comments made by Manchester United manager David Moyes are thought to have angered star striker Wayne Rooney, who is more keen than ever to leave Manchester United. The latest sports betting odds show that Rooney is evens to leave, and now over 2-1 to stay at United.
The striker has been speculated to leave the club before the end of the transfer window, but there was some hope that Rooney could be persuaded to stay at Old Trafford to extend his nine-year spell at the club. However, it appears that he is extremely hurt by the comments made by David Moyes that he could be a backup for Robin van Persie in the coming season.
Even though Moyes said that Rooney remains an important part of the team, he then continued and said that he would be an option if van Persie got injured over the course of the season. Rooney has made more than 400 appearances for United and has scored 200 goals since his £ 30 million transfer from Everton.
Hence, he does not understand the reason for being considered an option especially when it comes to van Persie, who has spent only one season at the club. Despite not being a part of the first team on a regular basis last year, Rooney still contributed with 16 goals and 22 assists.
"Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie we are going to need him. I want as many options as possible. It's hard to keep repeating myself. But I will do. Wayne is a Manchester United player and will remain that. Unless I was speaking double Dutch I think we said Wayne Rooney is not for sale," said Moyes while on the pre-season tour in Asia. Chelsea manager José Mourinho, meanwhile, has said that he is very much interested in bringing Rooney to Chelsea.
