Ollie slams Jack Wilshere for attitude
Outspoken Millwall boss Ian Holloway has blasted Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere for his display of attitude during England’s shocking World Cup exit.
The dynamic midfield star played only eighteen minutes in the team’s first two matches against Italy and Uruguay as England were knocked out even before kicking a ball in their last game against minnows Costa Rica, but the 22 year old was afforded playing time in that last match against the tiny North American nation.
But upon his substitution in the 73rd minute of that game, the Arsenal man appeared to show his frustration at the decision. And during the post match interview, the youngster admitted, much to the ire of the former Blackpool manager, that he found it difficult to motivate himself.
According to Holloway, who was writing in his column for a newspaper as a pundit during the World Cup, Jack Wilshere almost took the decision by Roy Hodgson to substitute him as a personal insult.
Moreover, if that wasn’t bad enough, he proceeded to say how hard it was for him to motivate himself before and during the game because he didn’t start against Italy and Uruguay and the team’s fate had already been decided by those two matches.
Holloway has a view on everything (remarkably, even Sports betting in Tanzania!) and thinks that the player thinks too highly of himself and is not a team player.
The former Crystal Palace boss also pointed out towards Robin van Persie as a model professional who made no fuss about being taken off during the team’s second round win over Mexico, despite being the team captain and accepted the manager’s decision fully.
Ollie stated that Jack Wilshere would have benefitted a lot if he had taken on these lessons from the Dutchman while he was at Arsenal and thinks the player should get his head right for the sake of his own future.
